'...of distinctive colour and design ...'
I am saddended to see that the mini Manus provincial flags that are waved by the public come Independence day, for the past 4 years or so has been manufactured, distributed and sold with the wrong colours by a retail company that been operating in Papua New Guinea for decades, Brian Bell & Co Limited.
The younger generation of Papua New Guinea will grow up identifying the incorrect flag for the Manus Province. The identity of the Manus people will be lost.
This is the correct color of the Manus Provincial Flag:
According to the flag designer, Mr Luke Bulei :
- The Brown colour represents the mainland Manus people
- The Blue colour respresents the island Manus people
- The Yellow bird respresent the 'Chauka' bird. This bird is found only in Manus province, it signals the begining and end of the day, and warns of danger.
- The Green shells represent the Emerald Green Snail. This snail is found only in Manus province.
- Blue is now purple
- Brown is now red
- Green is now white
- Yellow is sometime white or orange
I have since written to Brian Bell reqeusting all incorrect coloured flags to be recallled, new flags to be printed with the corrected colour and distributed for sale.
Proud Sunamist.
